A topic that I would like to use for my final project is the Korean War, or North Korea after war/ contemporary North Korea. We have not gotten to this topic in class, but other topics helped guide me to this idea. We learned in class how the country was divided into the Three Kingdoms (Silla, Goguryo, Kaya, and Baekje). The Korean Peninsula was unified by Silla. This inspired me to think about how later Korea gets split into North and South Korea and is disunited again. In addition I would love to explore North Korea after the war. I have seen documentaries about North Korea and I would love to explore more. The rights of the citizen, the ability to leave the country, the restrictions/laws, and the Korean demilitarized zone are all possible details I can include in my chapter. In addition I would like to look at how the leaders created an impact on the citizens, and the lifestyle of people there. I also found the idea of contemporary North Korea from looking through the book chapters. This topic caught my eye and is most interesting for me. I could also look into how United States got into conflicts with North Korea and the history between the two countries. Additionally, how North Korea came up as a strong and forceful unit with a strong military.
