When first skimming through the topics I was expecting to chose something history related, and did not expect and the different topics provided. As someone interested in the sciences and having siblings that are nurses, the heading “Emotion and Korean Nurses in Germany” instantly caught my eye. While skimming through to see if this interests me, I saw a part about the emotional part of working in healthcare, and instantly wanted to read more about it. I then saw a heading talking about North Korean literature. I was interested to read more about that because I know we do not know as much about North Korea, and the literature component is something I never seen or read about before. The last topic that I chose to discuss about on Thursday caught my eye because it discussed citizens dying for human rights. I was very interested to see what is revealed about the rights they have, since it is known their rights are minimal.
This is extremely different from working in other classes, because usually I am assigned to read a chapter or so and I am forced to read it even if I am not interested. This was very enjoyable because I was able to chose topics that interests me and I had freedom to leave a topic if I did not want to do that one. It motivated me to complete my assignment. It was way easier to learn what I read since I was interested in. If I had to read something I was not interested in,I would have to reread it multiple times because I was not paying attention and understanding what I read. So overall I feel like I learned more with this method rather than having assigned topics.
