On Wednesday’s class we went to the library to look at the editing features of pressbooks. I was able to put my draft in my section. I learned how to add images with captions. I was able to link my pictures source in the caption. I also added I looked at how to do hyperlinks, key takeaways, and learning objectives. It definitely is a lot easier to use pressbooks than I thought, so when I go to edit my chapter it won’t be as stressful or scary at all.
For Fridays class we read three things. First was “Candlelight and the Yellow Ribbon: Catalyzing Re-Democratization in South Korea,” which was about the candlelight and anti Park protests that occurred because of the Sewol Ferry accidents. Park was no where to be found when that incident happens and did not do much for the situation. The second reading was “South Korea’s candlelight protests through the eyes of North Korean defector participants.” which was about the candlelight protest and North Koreans who felt like they couldn’t participate in them. They felt that their families back in North Korea would be put in danger of they were caught on television. Some of them did not know how democracy worked and felt weird about protesting because in North Korea they would be executed especially since it’s about the leader. The last reading is “Op-Ed: The Korean ferry accident 8 years ago took hundreds of lives. We still don’t know why it happened.” which is about the Sewol Ferry incident and how the families have not gotten justice from the incident. Many kids dies because they were on a school trip and the families were promised answers, however they only got something information from the Hull investigation. However, that was not enough for them. When Moon went into office he said he would get them answers, but never did and used this for political advantage. In class we split into groups and talked about the timeline of the events, the yellow ribbon, and the Sewol Accident. It was interesting that I got to see Parks rating throughout her term through various things like the Sewol sinking, tax adjustment, MERs outbreak, and her scandal which ultimately ruined her approval ratings.
