Week 6: 5-15 Report

On Wednesday, we read A History of Korean Science and Technology and Invention of the Korean Alphabet. The first article about the Korean technology described the numerous early inventions that arose during King Sejong’s reign. Some of these include geographical records that include a map of the entire peninsula and each providence, a portable scape sundial, Chosen porcelain and firearms, a rain gauge, water clock, turtle ships, and more. The publication of many book also came out as well including “The Great Collection of Native Korean Prescriptions”, “The Proper Explanation of Farming”, and “Classified Collection of Medical Prescriptions”. These all helped Korea can differences from China and have their own findings. They also improved the lives of Korean residents. We also read the Invention of the Korean Alphabet, and this described how Korea attempted to create an alphabet that would not be easily read by Chinese graphs. The sounds also differs from the Chinese, however there were people known as Choe Malli and they opposed the Korean alphabet. They believed that they always used Chinese ideas, so they are not identifiable a civilization as their own.

On Thursday I replied on others blog posts about their Final Project Ideas. I was interested see what kind of information stuck with certain people and I was also excited to discuss my opinions with people who chose similar topics as I did.

On Friday I found resources to use for my Project and added them to Zotero and I also did my First reflection where I describe what I did in the last six weeks.

On my To Do list is to keep researching about my final topic and looking at my resources to see what kind of information I can use to make sure I want to do this topic.
