When getting ready for the start of the week, I always check what is due for the week on the class website. Monday is usually the 5-15 report where I get to reflect each week on the assignments I did and what I learned. I think those are really helpful to see your progress. For Wednesdays there is reading to do before class. I always read those and I look at the questions provided that are there to guide you through the reading. I take notes on those questions, as well as other information I think could be related. Those really help me find what I am looking for in the reading because those readings are very confusing for beginners like me. In addition, some have translations and are extremely long, so they confuse me. I will read about names or events that have similar looking names and it confuses me. In class though, I do understand the material more. It helps when we go into groups to do a jamboard or answer questions together. It helps me see what others have learned and it further helps my understanding by learning new things. On Thursday’s I get to reply to four other blog posts using Hypothes.is. Using Hypothes.is is a very innovative way to be able to make comments on articles, books, websites, and more. I am able to see everyones annotations in my class and comment on them myself as well in an easy way. My most enjoyable times using hypothes.is is when commenting on each other’s blog posts. A specific time was when we made a blog post about our pitch for the final project. I liked seeing the reasons why people chose the ones they did. I saw many people have an interest in the topic I chose, and it would be nice to be able to talk to them about it on Hypothes.is. When getting ready for Friday’s class I do the same as Wednesday. I look at the assigned readings and guided questions. I take notes on the reading to prepare for class. I feel that I can improve with more participation. I do like to respond in the discord chat during class time rather than talking. When we get to meeting in the classroom I want to be able to speak out loud with my ideas without getting scared of saying the wrong thing, or saying words incorrectly. I do know that I participate now, but I do get nervous about responding to certain things, since I might think I can be incorrect. So it is my new goal to participate in discussions more. I do think that I do best with my blog posts. I enjoy discussion over the blog posts and being able to communicate my knowledge and feeling comfortable seeing others posts and commenting on them. Over the course of the six weeks, I have learned so much about the history of Korea. I have learned about the Three Kingdoms, the Korean Peninsula, the Chinese Korean conflict, the Mongols invasion, Goryo under the Mongols rule, the Tangun myth, and many more. During the Library zoom session, I looked at an article discussing the conflict between China and Korea. I analyzed the article looking to see if it is credible or not. I used these tips when looking at my articles and books when choosing them as sources for my final project. I looked to see if the author was credible, I looked at the sources, looked to see if it was a review or summary compared to a primary source. I gathered pros and cons about them and chose the best resources to use. I got to choose my final topic by reflecting on the material I have learned thus far. I enjoyed reading about the conflicts with the Three Kingdoms and them joining as one. I was really curious to see how Korea has split again into two. I also would like to look at how North Korea developed into the way it is currently.
